In a series of posts we are introducing the companies that are supporting our new project ‘Riding Behind the Curtain’. In this post we look at Giro who supply us with shoes and helmets.

We love companies that seek to push the boundaries and Giro does exactly that with their inspired design. Their innovative ideas can now be seen right through the professional peloton and beyond.

The Empire lace-up shoe was in fact designed as a one-off for Taylor Phinney to wear during a time-trial. Due to the attention the shoes received, Giro decided to take them into production and now they can be seen on the feet of many riders. Sir Bradley Wiggins recently rode with a special gold pair during his successful Hour Record attempt.

We chose a mixture of Aeon and Synthe helmets as well as Prolight SLX II and Empire SLX shoes. Synthe helmet combines aerodynamics and cooling power. According to the wind tunnel testing it performs nearly as efficient as the fasted time trial helmets. The Empire’s are the lightest road shoe on the market at just 175 grams using an Easton EC90 sole for a light yet stiff base. Due to the laced closing system are also some of the best fitting and most comfortable shoes around.
