Unbeaten Paths

Posted in Machines

This is the OPEN U.P. a ‘GravelPlus’ bike that is as much at home on the smooth stuff as it is on the rough.

OPEN cycle have a motto; “working hard to stay small”. Andy & Gerard of OPEN have an impressive wealth of experience behind them; Andy is the former CEO of BMC while Gerard was the engineering mind and co-founder of Cervélo. Having ‘done’ the big business ‘thing’, they are now running OPEN as a small interest producing very innovative bikes.

The U.P. or Unbeaten Paths is the perfect example of this. Classified as ‘GravelPlus’ meaning that versatility is the key; it can take 700c wheelsets running up to 40mm tires or 650c wheelsets running 2.1” MTB tires. Combine this with road geometry and you have the perfect machine to take you out of town on the asphalt while you hunt for the best gravel roads.

This particular model is one Podia got its hands on and managed to mark it in its own way. With the help of Doktor Bobby we added a healthily smattering of Podia Dust to the 3T fork, stem and seatpost. A Brooks C13 saddle offers a traditional yet modern twist while the supple Challenge Gravel Grinder 36mm tires provide a good compromise between asphalt performance and stability on the gravel.

Thank you to Veloart Kraków for building the bike.
